Executive Summary Bullet Points

October 10, 2024

In the spirit of the great John F. Kennedy:

“We choose to transform the city of Houston into the global leader in sustainability in this decade and do the other things. Not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”

Giving to Houston: A $1 Billon plus 100% privately financed revolutionary circular economy environmental campus that will provide a 100% recycling rate for Houston, while saving the city between $234 Million to as much as $319 Million per year and transforming Houston into the world’s most sustainable city – Make it all happen in time for World Cup 2026

Asking from Houston: Supply the proposed EcoHub Campus (once operating) with Houston’s landfilled residential garbage in exchange for an EcoHub payment of $60.00 per ton in “Resource Rights” to Houston adding up to $42 million per year in new revenue – Similar to “Mineral Rights” for oil and gas leases

Since meeting with Mayor Whitmire and Chris Newport to discuss our “Houston We Have a Solution” Initiative in February, EcoHub has conducted extensive research into Houston’s long-range waste management and resource recovery plans which seek to reach Zero Waste in the coming decades, along with the “Houston Recycling Collaboration” partnership with ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell, which seeks to dramatically improve plastics recycling and decrease the carbon footprint.

Unfortunately, the City of Houston topped the List of 2023’s Dirtiest Cities in America. That’s a “distinction” that none of us proud Houstonians are happy to embrace. The good news is that by working together on Houston We Have a Solution we can completely flip the script and transform Houston into America’s cleanest city in just 2 years or less.

Please consider the Initiative’s highlight points/benefits identified, supported and provided by EcoHub.

  1. Capitalize on winning Bloomberg’s Mayors’ Challenge in 2013 with Houston’s “One Bin for All” award that was eventually inexplicably killed by the Turner Administration
  2. Unanimous winner of Houston’s “One Bin for All” RFP in 2015. EcoHub has been relentless over the past 13 years in its efforts to bring ultimate sustainability to Houston since proposing the “One Bin for All” innovative approach to recycling in August 2011, winning an RFP over 12 international bidders and effectively arranging $1 billion of project financing twice.
  3. 100% Waste Diversion in 2026 vs. 25% by 2040. Exceed Houston’s 2040 waste diversion goal of 25% detailed in Houston’s long-range Resource Recovery Implementation Program and the Houston Recycling Collaboration by 4X in 2026
  4. Massive Savings per Year. Save Houston $234 Million per year (staying public) to $319 Million per year (privatizing) in Solid Waste Management Department budgets, without using ANY taxpayer funds or requiring ANY public capital investment, by switching to a “One Bin for All” Program combined with EcoHub’s circular economy campus to process and convert the city’s waste into new sustainable products, renewable energy, potable water and organic food
  5. $1 Billion Plus Green Private Investment. Private infrastructure investment of $1 Billion or more into a circular economy environmental services & indoor farming campus in Houston and Harris County, with no expected tax abatements or incentives
  6. Grand Scale Redevelopment Project. Repurpose and resurrect the former 900-acre Champion Paper Mill site (located only 8 miles east on Beaumont Highway from the McCarty Road Landfill – where most of Houston’s waste is disposed) in Houston into the “NEW Johnson Space Center for Sustainability” in waste, recycling, water, food and climate
  7. Not too good to be true. The only difference between EcoHub and the industry status quo 3-bin/route system is operating the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) on the same campus as the backend manufacturing and conversion technologies versus shipping recovered materials to manufacturing plants located in different States or Countries – Every technology has been commercially operating for decades and will be performance guaranteed by a major world leading Contractor/EPC firm which is required to secure private investment in the project
  8. Global Leading Strategic Partners. EcoHub intends to explore the potential for some form of mutually beneficial strategic partnerships/alliances with major energy sector companies and other major international companies for the Houston Campus – EcoHub is already backed by $200 Billion in yearly revenue generating strategic partners
  9. 100% Recycling of MSW vs. 6%. Achieve a 100% recycling rate for single family home residents up from the current 6% recycling rate – providing major environmental and climate benefits
  10. 100% Recovery & Mechanical Recycling of Plastic into Clean High Grade Pellets. Recover and mechanically recycle 100% of Houston’s previously landfilled post-consumer plastic waste stream (estimated to be 75,000 tons per year) to PROVE that plastics are in fact recyclable. Houston has a very big problem regarding their “hard to recycle plastics program” that was recently the subject of a national CBS Reports Investigative Report. In addition, the State of California filed a lawsuit against Exxon for alleged deception regarding the recyclability of plastics. EcoHub can solve both those problems for Houston and Exxon.
  11. Provide 100% Recycling of Food Waste. 100% of Houston’s food waste, estimated to be 150,000+ tons per year, would be recovered and used to grow new sustainable and renewable food in Houston versus Houston Solid Waste Management Department’s Food Waste Drop-Off Program, with a few kiosks located around the city recovering a mere 150 tons per year
  12. Climate Leadership. Lead the way through Houston’s C40 Cities’ membership on carbon footprint reduction – Each EcoHub can produce carbon emission savings of up to 4M/t/year
  13. Sustainability Jobs and Education. Add 250+ new green jobs and a University, Community College and High School “Center for Excellence” Education and Visitor Center for each EcoHub
  14. Reduce Street Repairs and Pollution. 1-Bin/1-Route for ALL waste and recycling will significantly reduce street repairs, carbon emissions and the cost of the program to residents
  15. No New Landfills. Eliminate the need to permit, site and construct new landfills necessary or required for Houston’s waste disposal in 10–15 years – saving $600M plus in the future
  16. Create the #1 Sustainable City in the World. Establish Houston as the American and world leader in sustainability
  17. Historic Houston Image Makeover/Transformation. Positively change the image of Houston forever by working with the Energy Sector to solve global problems; zero waste – including plastics and food, climate, clean water, and urban indoor sustainable, organic and renewable farming and food production
  18. World Cup Epic PR Stage for Houston. Showcase Houston’s NEW status as the global leader in Zero Waste and ultimate sustainability to the world during the World Cup 2026 in Houston – A generational PR opportunity for Houston and Houston First Corporation
  19. Additional $25/mo. Garbage Fee is Inevitable. The SWMD budget of $100 Million plus per year is already costing residents approximately $22/mo. The City Council’s unanimous approval of the Burns & McDonnell 12-month study to improve SWMD services will most likely result in a recommendation to add more trucks and drivers necessary to effectively cover the 3-route program service requirements (at an additional cost of at least $25/mo. per household) – there is no other viable solution to avoid a monthly surcharge to residents other than switching to a 1-Bin/1-Route program
  20. Much Better Waste/Recycling Collection Service at Lower Cost. The Houston SWMD would be able to keep all their drivers, while providing better service and convenience to residential customers with a 1-Bin/1-Route program – No more curbside sorting or pickup delays at a lower cost to Houstonians
  21. Groundbreaking PPP Strategy. Houston First leadership can develop a new paradigm model for Public/Private Partnerships that will break the molds of the past and launch a more impactful and mutually beneficial long-term approach
  22. Future Expansion to Provide 100% Recycling Rates to the Greater Houston Area. 14 more EcoHub Campuses could be privately financed, constructed and operated in the Greater Houston Area to provide 100% recycling of all residential and commercial landfilled waste
  23. Big Waste has Adopted the Mixed Waste 1-Bin Recycling Approach. Republic Services, Waste Management, and FCC Environmental were instrumental in crafting Houston’s long-range Resource Recovery Implementation Program (really a “hopeful” pathway to Zero Waste) and they, as well as other waste industry players, have been operating 15+ mixed waste Material Recovery Facilities/1-Bin systems/programs starting in 1995 and continuing through today in areas where they don’t own and operate landfills – no viable political fallout from them
  24. Zero Risk for Zero Waste. De-risk Houston We Have a Solution by bringing onboard world leading international companies as strategic partners and integrating 100% commercially operating technologies that are fully performance guaranteed on multiple levels + No obligation by Houston of providing any MSW to the EcoHub Campus until it is operational
  25. Simple MOU for Future Waste Supply. All it will take to launch this “Race to Sustainability” mission is a simple 3-page non-binding MOU from Houston to supply its residential waste to the EcoHub Campus once operational (in 2026) in exchange for a $60 per ton “Resource Rights” payment from EcoHub back to Houston (in combined disposal savings and payments)

Waste Recycling FAQs

  • Can you tell me more about EcoHub?

EcoHub is the only sustainable product manufacturer that provides economic development, environmental sustainability, and lower costs to cities, companies, and communities.

Unlike the world’s current approach to garbage handling, EcoHub views 100% of the waste stream as a resource. That is why we collect every piece of trash in one single bin – no longer do you have to separate plastics or cardboard from food waste, we can do all of that for you. Our sustainable product manufacturing process repurposes nearly 100% of the waste stream into value-added products. By placing the focus on putting every piece of garbage to its highest and best use, EcoHub delivers benefits to both the economy and the environment. This is the beginning of a movement – an Environmental Revolution that changes the way the world consumes and reuses resources. Our goal is to create a waste free world.

  • What is EcoHub's Closed Loop System?

EcoHub’s closed-loop system provides ultimate sustainability™ and the most environmentally healthy collection path ever conceived.

It’s all made possible by EcoHub’s model of circular integration™, which takes in 100% of the waste stream as a resource and manufactures it into new sustainable products that can be resold back into the local community. This entire process occurs in one location, providing the greatest environmental benefit, while creating new opportunity for local communities.

  • What are the benefits of EcoHub?

EcoHub will Reduce Landfilling and/or Recycling Costs by 50% to 75% or more. EcoHub fully monetizes the discarded materials stream through an onsite closed-loop backend manufacturing and conversion technology suite, delivering to existing waste recycling companies and government agencies additional new free cash flow per ton processed.

EcoHub is Reliable. At the heart of the EcoHub is the MaxDiverter™; the first true automated mixed waste separation system. EcoHub’s MaxDiverter is guaranteed and bonded to mechanically separate and recover all elements of the waste stream at 95%+ performance efficiency to 95%+ purity with 97% operational reliability. Value-added manufacturing processes, which are co-located with the MaxDiverter on our eco-industrial campuses, utilize proven, well-established manufacturing and conversion technologies and NASA-originated technologies repurposed for civilian application.

Environmental Solution. Each 2,000 ton/day EcoHub will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2.5 million tons of CO2e. Coupled with emissions reductions from processing recovered vs. virgin materials, these reductions are equivalent of taking up to 800K cars off the road. Eliminating extra collection routes and minimizing the transport of recycled products further reduces emissions and energy use, as well as reduces wear and tear on residential streets.

Experienced Team. EcoHub’s principals have almost 280 years combined experience in solid waste management, manufacturing, conversion technologies, advanced technology development and deployment, and environmental market transformation. They possess excellent contacts throughout the industry, as well as with municipal and national governments across the world.
